Our Story
AJH Construction was founded in 2004 with a single premise: New Jersey homeowners deserve a contractor who treats their home with the same care and attention as their own. That idea has guided every project we have taken on in the two decades since.
What began as a focused renovation business in Northern NJ has grown into one of the region's most respected full-service general contracting companies. Today, AJH Construction delivers everything from custom new builds on vacant land to complete gut renovations of historic NJ homes — and every project type in between. We serve homeowners across Bergen, Essex, Morris, Union, Passaic, and the surrounding NJ counties.

John AwadFounder & Principal
John Awad founded AJH Construction in 2004 after more than a decade working in residential and commercial construction across Northern New Jersey. His background spans every phase of the build process — from foundation and framing through finish carpentry and tile — giving him an unusually complete understanding of what it takes to deliver a project correctly.
John leads every client relationship personally. He conducts initial consultations, reviews estimates before they leave the office, visits active job sites weekly, and signs off on every final walkthrough. His direct involvement is what clients reference most consistently in their feedback: they always know where their project stands, and they always have someone accountable on the other end of the phone.
John is a licensed New Jersey Home Improvement Contractor (HIC License 13VH13055700) and holds full general liability and workers' compensation coverage on all projects.
